However, their actual conditions have not been fully grasped, with few epidemiological studies. Pain not only causes physical suffering, but also decreases QOL, and can have undesirable influences both psychologically and socially. Although pain relief improves ADL and QOL, we have far more important task of introducing pain management for the elderly. Thus the research in this field is expected to become increasingly indispensable in future from the standpoint of nursing care as well. Therefore this paper focuses on the physical pain of the elderly community residents by conducting a survey in order to obtain basic data necessary for introducing pain management. Subjects were 911 elderly residents of O-village aged 65 years and over who were interviewed at home. Analysis was made on 700 respondents, the items of questionnaire being: fundamental attributes, pain, QOL (The PGC morale scale), subjective health status and frequency of going out. The results of the study were as follows: 1) 61.9% of men and 75.2% of women had pain, with the percentage tending to increase with age. Compared with men, women showed a higher percentage of having pain, also experiencing stronger pain than men. 2) A large proportion of both men and women complained of pain in the legs and back. 3) As for the frequency of going out, more people answered significantly " I rarely go out" in proportion to the progress of pain intensity. Also the average score of QOL declined significantly, and more people significantly responded "poor" to the question of subjective health status in proportion to the progress of pain intensity. From these results it was suggested that it is an important task for us to relieve the pain in the elderly community residents by introducing, from the standpoint of nursing care, pain management including pain-related knowledge and skills. Another suggestion was that introduction of pain management can improve ADL and QOL scores, thereby preventing the elderly from becoming housebound or bedridden.}, pages = {25--32}, title = {地域在住高齢者へのペインマネジメントの導入}, year = {2002}, yomi = {アカミネ, イツコ and シンジョウ, マサキ} }
