 note = {本研究の目的は、本学の学生が英語に対してどのような意識をもっているか等を調査することにより、より効果的な「動機付け」への手がかりとし、今後の本学における英語教育を改善していくための基礎的資料とすることであった。平成16年度の看護学部看護学科１年次入学生80名を対象に、１年前期「英会話1」の第１回講義時間を利用して28項目からなるアンケート調査への記入を依頼した。本調査から、平成16年度の本学の新入生には全体として次のような特徴がみられる。英語自体については、「好きで興味はあるものの苦手意識をもっている」「受容的側面（Reading, Listening）に比べて行動的側面（Writing、Speaking）に苦手意識がある」「入学時点の英語力は、センター試験を受験した全国の大学新入生の平均レベルに達している」などである。英語の講義については、「学習意欲を十分もっており講義を楽しみにしている」「大部分の学生が英語の運用能力、特に会話力を伸ばすことを重視している」「楽に単位をとりたがっている」「講義時間の中では映画や音楽などを利用したエンターテイメント性が期待されている」などである。これらの結果から、新入生が概して大学英語に取り組む意欲や能力を備えていることをふまえ、今後は講義の中で行動的側面をより丁寧に指導して自信をつけさせるとともに、視聴覚教材を効果的に利用しながら講義をより活性化していきたい。|The purpose of this study was to survey new freshmen at Okinawa Prefectural College of Nursing (OPCN) about their perceptions toward English and relevant matters so as to improve the college's English education, especially with regards to better learning motivation. The 28 item survey was conducted during the first lecture of Speaking Nursing English 1 to all of the 80 freshmen enrolled in the Department of Nursing in Spring 2004. The results indicated that this year's newcomers were generally characterized as follows. Concerning English itself, they liked it and expressed interest but felt poor at it, especially at active skills--writing and speaking, compared to receptive skills--reading and listening. At the point of enrollment, their English proficiency was as high as that of the average student that had taken the National College Admission Center Exam, Japan's national aptitude test generally required before college admission, which is comparable to SAT in the U.S. Regarding English courses. the newcomers were motivated enough and looking forward to taking them. Their learning focus was on developing communication abilities, in particular, conversation skills. On the other hand, the majority of them wanted to earn the English credits easily. Entertainment such as music and movies was another aspect expected of the lectures. These findings suggest that the majority of OPCN freshmen are motivated as well as prepared for college English. In the future lectures, active skills will be more emphasized to develop the students' confidence. Also, they may be more stimulated through effective use of audiovisual materials.},
